Spellchecking e-mail in Outlook Express
Outlook
Express doesn't include a spell checker. Instead, it boasts a
non-functioning, "greyed-out" spelling icon, like the one on the left.
If you install a copy of Microsoft Office (or one of its programs like
Word),
Outlook Express automatically "borrows" that program's spell checker,
and the icon begins working. But without Microsoft Office, the spell
check doesn't work. That's changed, however.
Early this year, a man with the scary name/site of "Vampirefo" wrote a free spell checker for Outlook Express, and he's giving it away at www.geocities.com/vampirefo/. (Thanks to Arthur for the tip!)
